What has the Balkan War meant for gay people? What kind of life did gay men have anyway, in the cities of former Yugoslavia? Boris Davidovich, a university teacher in Belgrade, kept for the last seven years a diary of his daily thoughts and activities. Cruising the streets and toilets, he picks up young men, often soldiers, exploring with them a world of male love quite remote from the Western gay scene. As his country descends into nationalism and chaos, even sex becomes increasingly bizarre. How can the same person be a torturer by day, and a sensitive lover by night? What does a young man do for sex, when his arms and legs have been amputated? Drawing on his own experiences, Boris reflects on some fundamental features of the human condition: patriarchy and comradeship, masculinity and violence, eros and thanatos.
