United in Diversity: Professional organizations

Between January 2022 and December 2023 Háttér Society is coordinating a national research, training and awareness raising project entitled United in Diversity: Mainstreaming LGBTQI equality in the work of professional organizations in Hungary.

Objectives:

• Decreasing discrimination against LGBTQI people in the field of education, healthcare, social services and psychological support
• Improving knowledge, skills and attitudes of professionals towards LGBTQI persons in those fields
• Making health, mental health, social services and public education more responsive to the needs of LGBTQI persons
• Supporting LGBTQI professionals to come out and integrate better at their workplace 
• Encouraging professionals and professional organizations to speak up for LGBTQI equality

Activities:

• Conducting needs assessment research among professionals
• Regular meetings within and among professional groups to discuss current issues, share experiences and strategize
• Developing professional guidelines and awareness raising publications
• Conducting trainings and online seminars, organizing conferences

Háttér Society is responsible for the overall coordination of the project and for the work with health professionals in close cooperation with the Hungarian LGBT+ Medicine Society.
