SafeNet: Monitoring and Reporting for Safer Online Environments
Between January 2023 and December 2024, Háttér Society implements SafeNet: Monitoring and Reporting for Safer Online Environments together with twenty other international partners.
The two main priorities of the project are:
- Continuous monitoring and reporting of online content that constitutes hate speech to social media platforms and, where necessary, to the competent authorities,
- Raising awareness through regular advocacy with social media platforms, providing data to national authorities, and organising national awareness campaigns involving various stakeholders, including social media platforms, authorities, NGOs and the media.
To achieve these, partner organisations:
- Continuously monitor and report online hate speech to social media platforms that is considered illegal or harmful,
- Produce and share easy-to-understand fact sheets on the results of this activity,
- Bring representatives of NGOs, social media platforms and EU authorities together in advocacy roundtables.
The project is funded by the European Union's Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values programme.
