Mental Health Program

Lelki Egészség Program

The aim of our Mental Health Program is to help the LGBTQI community in Hungary to maintain and regain their mental health through the operation of an information and counselling hotline, the provision of the personal counselling service, health education and self-help groups. In the course of our activities, we also produce research and statistics on the mental wellbeing of LGBTQI people, which we use to create and provide training, professional materials and good practices for training experts.

LGBTQI people face significant discrimination, prejudice, exclusion and stigmatisation in many areas of life (family, work, education, services, etc.) because of their sexual orientation and/or gender identity. The day-to-day minority stress experienced therefore has a significant impact on their mental health, leading to a variety of distressing mental health conditions such as crises, anxiety, depression, addiction, self-harm and suicide.

Our information and counselling hotline is available by phone all year round, every day (including weekends and holidays) from 18:00 to 23:00. We are available by chat on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 18:00 to 23:00. As not all of our operators are able to provide the service in English, we recommend reaching out via chat to enquire when one could reach an English-speaking operator on the phone.

Our personal counselling service welcomes applications from LGBTQI people over the age of 18 who would like to receive support free of charge in 10-12 sessions.
