HIV/STI program

Kulcsszavak:
HIV/STI

Although Hungary is one of the countries with low HIV prevalence, the number of newly diagnosed HIV infections is not decreasing year by year. Around eighty percent of newly diagnosed cases of known infection are among men who have sex with men.

Háttér Society therefore considers the fight against HIV and other sexually transmitted infections as a priority. We run a consultative and information service called HIV Peer Support Service, available in person and online (hivsegito@hatter.hu); an HIV Hotline (+36 (1) 6333 455) available 14 hours a day (8am to 10pm). Biweekly we have self-help service groups called Pozitív Szemmel and Chill. The former is for people living with HIV and for their supporters, the latter for people who want to take a break from sex-related substance use and for their supporters.

In addition, we run prevention programmes focusing on safer sexual behavior, organize HIV screening and counseling, and tackle stigmatization and discrimination against people living with HIV.

We are active members of the following international organizations: AIDS Action Europe (AAE), the European AIDS Treatment Group (EATG), the European AIDS Clinical Society (EACS) and the Eurasian Coalition for Health, Rights, Gender and Sexual Diversity (ECOM).
